5 Essential Aquarium Equipments You Must Have

Aquarium Equipments

How easy it may sound but setting up a home aquarium may get confusing if you are a beginner. There are a number of aquarium supplies available in the market but one should know which are necessary to buy and which are not so important at the beginning of this hobby. Here, we’ll list the essential freshwater aquarium supplies you should have for getting started:

A Fish Tank

Getting a fish tank may sound obvious but some people often skip it. They use a bowl, a cup, a glass, or any other container for their fish. Taking care of fish and keeping the stable condition of water in small containers is complicated and you will not be able to install the necessary equipment in it. It is highly recommended to get a fish tank of a minimum 5 gallon, to give the fish enough space to swim and to keep a constant temperature, PH, and hardness.

An Aquarium Filter

Aquarium filter is the second most important equipment. It is used to keep the tank clean from the ammonia released from fish waste and leftover fish food. An aquarium filter should be running 24/7 or else it’s just the matter of time before the fish starts dying an unnatural death from polluted water.

Aquarium Water Conditioner

If you are using tap water to fill up the tank, an aquarium water conditioner is required. Mostly home aquariums are filled with tap water, but it has chlorine and chloramines in it. Both chemical compounds are dangerous for human health, but they can also kill the fish. To neutralize the water, an aquarium water conditioner is used to make tap water safe for fish. Water conditioners available in the market are mostly in liquid form. A few drops will do the job for you instantly.

Fish food

Food is a must for any animal and so for fish. However, they have a special diet requirement, which should be taken care of. Always remember never to overfeed the fish, they often die by overfeeding. There is a huge variety of fish food available in the market. People often think that they can switch the fish food from the human diet, it’s can be a big mistake. While some fish can eat whatever you feed them if they are hungry enough but fish need proper fish food with high protein and fat.

An Aquarium Heater

Most of the fish we buy for the home aquarium are tropical fish. Unless you are living in a tropical area, you must buy an aquarium heater for your fish tank. It keeps the water temperature constant because fish can easily die or get uncomfortable at low temperature. The aquarium heater turns off automatically after reaching the targeted temperature. Aquarium monitors also come in handy to keep a check on water temperature and toxic level.
